The Goodness of God in Pressing Times

The Goodness of God in Pressing Times

Scripture Focus: "The Lord is good, a stronghold in the day of trouble; He knows those who take refuge in Him." – Nahum 1:7

Life often presses us in ways we never expected—financial struggles, health crises, the weight of motherhood, the ache of loneliness, or the uncertainty of the future. As Christian women, we are called to stand firm in our faith even when the world around us feels shaky. The question is not whether trials will come, but how we will respond when they do.

The Bible reminds us over and over that God is not only present in our trials but that He is good in them. His goodness is not based on our circumstances—it is His nature. When we face pressing times, it can be tempting to doubt His goodness, but Scripture reassures us that He is our stronghold (Nahum 1:7).

Think of Shadrach, Meshach, and Abednego in Daniel 3. When they were thrown into the fiery furnace, God didn’t remove them from the fire right away—He stepped into it with them. Dear sister, the fire you are walking through today does not mean God has abandoned you. He is walking beside you, shielding you, and using this trial to refine and strengthen you.

As women, we often carry heavy burdens. We are caregivers, encouragers, and nurturers, yet we also struggle with doubt, exhaustion, and feeling unseen. Psalm 34:8 says, "Oh, taste and see that the Lord is good! Blessed is the man who takes refuge in Him!" His goodness is something we can experience in real and tangible ways.

  • When you feel overwhelmed by responsibilities, His goodness is your peace (John 14:27).

  • When you are uncertain about your future, His goodness is your trustworthy guide (Proverbs 3:5-6).

  • When you feel lonely or unnoticed, His goodness reminds you that you are fully known and loved (Psalm 139:1-3).

One of the most beautiful examples of a woman trusting in God’s goodness during trials is Ruth. After losing her husband, she had every reason to give in to despair. But instead, she clung to God, followed Naomi, and found herself walking straight into God’s provision. Her story is a testimony that pressing seasons are often preparation for greater blessings.

Father, thank You for Your goodness, even when life is hard. Help me to see Your hand at work in my struggles and to trust that You are my stronghold. When I am weary, remind me that You are my refuge. When I feel forgotten, whisper to my heart that I am known and loved by You. Strengthen me, Lord, and refine me through this season, that I may reflect Your goodness to those around me. In Jesus' name, Amen.

Sister, no matter what season you are in, cling to God’s goodness. Meditate on His Word, worship even in the waiting, and trust that He is using this time to deepen your faith. He is with you, He is for you, and His goodness will never fail.

Reflection Questions:

  1. What is one way you have seen God’s goodness in a difficult season?

  2. How can you remind yourself of His faithfulness when trials come?

  3. Who in your life needs encouragement to trust in God’s goodness today?

May you walk in the assurance that God is good—always, even in the pressing. 💛

Much Love,

Kisha Prisinzano
