Beauty from Brokenness

Have you ever had a moment in your life where you have felt completely crushed or broken? Maybe you endured the loss of a loved one or experienced betrayal so deeply it cut to your core. Maybe you made a personal decision that at the time may have felt right but ended up coming back later to haunt you or make you feel unworthy of love or any value.

I remember one time in my own personal life, I stood in church one Sunday morning feeling completely crushed and that God had forgotten me in the midst of all my troubles. I had just experienced betrayal from a trusted family member, I was battling my own multiple health issues, and I had to watch another close family member battle cancer and all the treatments that come with it. All this happened while in the midst of Covid, where isolation was at its peak. That Sunday, while it felt so good to finally be physically among other loving sisters and brothers in Christ, I felt so completely broken. The weight of everything I was carrying was weighing me down. I looked at others around me thriving and enjoying life with their friends and families and I felt so alone. I felt my life had completely shattered and could never be beautiful again. I began to believe no one could possibly want to walk beside me in all the hurt and would choose to love me anyways.

A broken heart is an exceedingly difficult thing to endure but it is also a powerful thing that God can use for His glory. God doesn’t just use seemingly happy, successful, or “put-together” people to grow His kingdom. He uses all people from all different backgrounds and walks of life. We each have a unique story and have all walked through our own difficult storms. None of us are perfect but we as Christians all serve a perfect Father who loves us unconditionally and is willing to forgive us of all our wrongdoings (1 John 1:9- “If we confess our sins, he is faithful and just and will forgive us our sins and purify us from all unrighteousness”). God can turn ANYONE’S mess into a message with a willing and surrendered heart. NOTHING is too big for Him. Just as our paths serve a unique purpose, our storms serve a unique purpose too. Sometimes they are meant to clear our path, test our faith, or bring us closer to Him. Other times, our storms are meant to help others who may need redirection in their lives or a companion to walk beside them. Then in some cases, we do not ever know why we are facing the storms we are facing. One thing is for sure, though, that God knows why, and He sees you and is willing to help you through anything you are facing (Isaiah 41:10 – “So do not fear, for I am with you;
    do not be dismayed, for I am your God. I will strengthen you and help you; I will uphold you with my righteous right hand”).

So, as you face brokenness in your life or walk through a difficult storm, remember you are not alone. God loves you and already knows each and every storm you will face. He is there to help grow you and guide you through it all and will turn your hurt or brokenness into something way more beautiful than you can ever imagine.

Ephesians 3:14-21- “For this reason I kneel before the Father, from whom every family in heaven and on earth derives its name. I pray that out of his glorious riches he may strengthen you with power through his Spirit in your inner being, so that Christ may dwell in your hearts through faith. And I pray that you, being rooted and established in love, may have power, together with all the Lord’s holy people, to grasp how wide and long and high and deep is the love of Christ, and to know this love that surpasses knowledge—that you may be filled to the measure of all the fullness of God.  Now to him who is able to do immeasurably more than all we ask or imagine, according to his power that is at work within us, to him be glory in the church and in Christ Jesus throughout all generations, for ever and ever! Amen.”
